The multiclock build by Floatingpoint Instruments is a one-stop shop for synchronising all kinds of musical gear with great precision to a master DAW.
It converts all kinds of clock signals from one to another and is able to derive highly accurate sync with a plugin provided from the soundcard of a DAW or even generate a masterclock itself. It features four ultra precise channels, all separately shiftable and swingable in real time to compensate slave machine delay and add groove.
Multiclock offers Hot-Plug&Play support for MIDI, DIN, Modular Clock & Analog LFO and has a built-in four channel class-compliant USB MIDI port. Any MIDI data sent to those USB ports gets forwarded to the respective physical MIDI OUTs.
As if this wasn't enough, unused channels can always be used as a MIDI controller via MIDI-out or USB MIDI.
The tempo range is 30-300 BPM, the shift range is ±400ms and the resolution 20μs.
The Multiclock is delivered with an EU power supply! It can be operated with a 9-12V DC power supply with any polarity.
Keeping a DAW in perfect sync with external hardware is one of the most persistent challenges in a hybrid studio. The Multiclock by Floatingpoint Instruments provides a definitive solution. By using a sample-accurate audio signal from your DAW as a timebase, it eliminates the jitter and latency inherent in traditional USB-MIDI clocking.
The Multiclock features four independent channels, each capable of outputting MIDI, DIN Sync, or Analog clock. This versatility allows it to act as the central hub for gear from any era—from vintage drum machines to modern Eurorack systems. With per-channel controls for real-time shifting and shuffle, you can compensate for hardware lag or dial in custom grooves with micro-second precision. Whether used as a standalone master clock or as a bridge to your computer, the Multiclock ensures your setup remains locked and stable.
Key Technical Highlights:
- Ultra-Low Jitter: Achieve ±1 sample accuracy when synced via the provided VST/AU/AAX plugin or an audio sample loop.
- Multi-Format Outputs: Four channels that can be individually configured for MIDI, DIN Sync (Sync24), or Modular/Analog clock.
- Per-Channel Shift & Shuffle: Real-time timing adjustment of up to ±300ms to perfectly align stubborn hardware with your DAW grid.
- Integrated MIDI Router: Powerful internal routing allows you to merge clock signals with MIDI data from your computer or external controllers.
- Standalone Capability: Includes a high-precision internal reference clock (30-300 BPM) for use as a master clock without a computer.
FAQs
FAQs
Q: Why do I need a Multiclock if my interface already has MIDI?
A: Standard USB-MIDI often suffers from "jitter" (slight timing drifts) caused by your computer's operating system. The Multiclock solves this by converting an audio pulse from your DAW into a rock-solid, sample-accurate MIDI clock. It ensures your hardware drum machines and sequencers are perfectly "locked" to your DAW grid.
Q: Can it sync gear with different connection types?
A: Absolutely. Each of the 4 channels can be configured independently to send MIDI Clock, DIN Sync (for vintage Roland gear), or analog Clock/Gate pulses (for modular and pocket operators).
Q: What is the "Shift" knob for?
A: This is the Multiclock’s secret weapon. It allows you to physically shift the timing of each channel forward or backward in real-time. If your hardware synth has a slight internal lag, you can "nudge" its clock forward until it sits perfectly in the pocket of your mix.
