The HexDrums has 10 sound sources, mostly based on the great sounding Hexinverter Mutant series of percussion modules: two kick drums for different (or combined) flavours – the BD9 and Bass drum, an optimized Mutant Machine, Snare drum, Clap, Rimshot and HiHats.

To complete the setup, Erica Synths Cymbals have been added, featuring 10 sets of crash and ride cymbal samples. All drums have individual outputs and in the master section, they are panned in the stereo field before being sent into the Compressor and Master Drive, derived from the Mutant Glue. A hands-on and easy-to-program sequencer provides nuanced, up to 64-step pattern design, accents, per-step microtiming, ratchets, rolls, per-step probability and a memory of 16 banks with 16 patterns each.

FAQs

Q: Is the Hexdrums analog or digital?

A: It is a hybrid. It uses high-resolution digital engines to generate the initial drum tones (allowing for a massive range of sounds), which are then processed through analog-modeled filters and amplifiers to give them a raw, hardware punch.

Q: Can I process each drum sound separately?

A: Yes. This is one of the Hexdrums' best features. It has 6 individual 3.5mm outputs, allowing you to send the Kick to one channel on your mixer and the Snare to another for independent EQ and FX processing.

Q: Does it have built-in effects like Reverb or Delay?

A: No. Erica Synths designed this to be a "drum engine." It features a master compressor for "glue," but for space and time effects, it is best paired with boutique pedals like the OTO Machines BIM or Endorphin.es effects.

Q: Can I trigger it with my modular system?

A: Absolutely. It features Trigger and Accent inputs for every voice, allowing it to act as the "percussion wing" of your Eurorack setup.
