Based on lessons learned from the SYNTRX, Erica Synths decided to create an instrument that would integrate even deeper into contemporary electronic and experimental music setups and cover sonic territory from daunting drones to powerful basslines and glitched noisescapes - the SYNTRX II is a new dark horse for experimental sonic rides.

The SYNTRX II is the culmination of our analogue sound design circuits – two perfectly stable main oscillators with waveshapers, a modulation oscillator with 1V/oct tracking, a versatile multimode filter, supercharged external instrument inputs with an envelope follower, a unique, great-sounding ring modulator, a recordable joystick, built-in piano roll sequencer and stepped modulation sources, all arranged around our signature matrix mixer and topped off with powerful FX on our new DSP platform.

The Infinite Patchbay

The heart of the SYNTRX II is its digitally controlled 16x16 LED matrix. By removing the need for physical patch cables, Erica Synths has created an instrument that encourages deep, fearless experimentation. You can route any of the oscillators, noise generators, or external inputs through the filters and VCAs with three levels of gain per connection. Most importantly, these complex routings can be saved and recalled in milliseconds, making it the first "pin-matrix" synth that is truly viable for high-pressure live performances.

A Sculptor’s Toolset

While many modern synths focus on presets and polished sounds, the SYNTRX II is about the raw manipulation of electricity. With its dual stable VCOs, a screaming multimode filter, and a loopable trapezoid envelope, it excels at creating "living" textures. The iconic X/Y joystick provides a physical connection to the sound, allowing you to morph between two vastly different patches or manually sweep multiple parameters at once for cinematic, evolving soundscapes.

Beyond Synthesis: The Ultimate Processor

The SYNTRX II is just as powerful as an external effects unit as it is a standalone synth. With two high-headroom inputs and an onboard envelope follower, you can feed drum machines, guitars, or even a full mix into the matrix. Use the analog filters and the internal DSP reverb to mangle incoming audio, or use the incoming signal as a modulation source to trigger the SYNTRX’s internal oscillators. It is a bridge between the world of traditional synthesis and modular sound processing.

FAQs

Q: Is this a clone of the EMS Synthi?

A: It is "inspired by" the Synthi AKS, particularly in its workflow and patch matrix. However, the oscillators, filters, and digital matrix control are all original Erica Synths designs, offering modern stability and features the original never had.

Q: Can I save my patches?

A: Yes! This is the biggest advantage of the SYNTRX II. You can save up to 254 patch configurations on the matrix and recall them instantly via MIDI or the front panel.

Q: Does it have a built-in speaker?

A: No. Unlike the first SYNTRX, the mkII removed the speakers to make room for more advanced modulation and the improved sequencer section.

Q: Can I use the joystick to control other MIDI gear?

A: Yes. The joystick outputs MIDI CC messages, allowing it to control parameters in your DAW or other hardware synths alongside the internal analog engines.
