EVIL PET can be used as a polyphonic synthesizer, granular effects unit, FM radio tuner, tape recorder and much more.

It converts incoming audio signals into tiny grains and plays them back in new, creative, or surprising ways. Transform the grains by stretching, shrinking, or rotating them to create unique sounds, textures, and effects. Layer grains to create dreamy, glitchy, or swirling sounds. The device works with any input—guitar, voice, synthesizer, or drums—and transforms ordinary sounds into something entirely new.

The input signal can come from the rear inputs, the built-in microphone, the integrated FM tuner, or from samples on the microSD card. The grains can be triggered by the mechanical PLAY button or played polyphonically eight-voice via a connected MIDI or MPE keyboard.

FAQs

Q: Is the Evil Pet a pedal or a standalone synth?

A: It’s both. While it looks like a pedal, it is a powerful 8-voice polyphonic granular synthesizer. You can use it to process external audio (vocals, guitar, drums) or play it as a standalone instrument using its internal wavetable engine and samples from the SD card.

Q: Where does the "source" audio come from?

A: You have four options: the stereo input jacks, a built-in microphone, a built-in FM radio tuner, or samples loaded onto a microSD card. The radio is particularly fun for finding random "found sound" grains to granulate.

Q: Can I play it with a MIDI keyboard?

A: Yes. It supports MIDI and MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression). This allows you to play the granular grains polyphonically, with full control over pitch and texture for each individual note.
