Developed in collaboration with philtersoup, the Asura is the first synth to come out of India. It is a 6-voice hybrid polyphonic desktop synth.

Instead of the conventional VCO-VCF architecture found in most poly synths, the Asura explores the novel modulating waveshaping possibilities offered by the interactions of a digital wavetable engine, a custom analog fuzz circuit and feedback loops.

Animal Factory Amplification Asura is a rabid, 6-voice polyphonic hybrid wavetable synthesizer born from a five-year collaboration between Mumbai-based boutique sonic alchemists Animal Factory Amplification and sound artist Sanjay Das (Philtersoup). Distilling ancient mythological dualities—the sacred and the profane, ethereal light and visceral destruction—Asura stands as the first standalone hardware synthesizer designed and manufactured in India.

At the core of Asura lies a dual-wavetable engine delivering six voices of polyphony across 12 morphing oscillators. Each oscillator offers seven meticulously sculpted, interpolatable waveforms alongside cross-modulation and 1-operator FM architectures. Rather than taming this digital powerhouse behind a polite, predictable resonant filter, Animal Factory boldly routed the raw oscillator outputs directly into their legendary all-analog fuzz and overdrive topology. From whispering ambient shimmer and haunting bells to apocalyptic industrial grind, Asura transforms digital precision into savage analog heat.

Tactile performance and immediate sonic manipulation define the front panel. Twenty tactile, backlit potentiometers and responsive function switches provide instant parameter sculpting without menu-diving. Underneath the knobs, an expressive capacitive multitouch keyboard delivers polyphonic pressure sensitivity, allowing individual notes to warp, filter, and saturate organically under your fingertips. The signal then plunges into an onboard stereo granular delay with micro-looping and time-manipulation capabilities, splintering chords into lush clouds of shifting resonance.

Asura is engineered to serve as both an independent desktop performance instrument and a nerve centre for complex studio rigs. With full Eurorack compatibility—including dedicated 1V/Oct In/Out, Gate In/Out, Clock In/Out, and two assignable CV inputs—Asura dialogues seamlessly with modular systems, drum machines, and analog sequencers. Bidirectional MIDI over isolated, noise-free USB-C and 3.5mm TRS Type-A jacks guarantees clean, jitter-free DAW and controller integration, while an internal 8-step sequencer with parameter locks lets you program intricate motion directly into hardware patches.

Customise your sonic palette via the dedicated Web MIDI browser editor, enabling deep patch backup, custom wavetable uploads, and granular modulation routing without requiring external software installations.

In Indian and other Asian mythologies, Asuras are depicted as celestial beings of immense power; sometimes benevolent, sometimes evil, and in opposition to the Gods. 

The Animal Factory Asura distills these values into its sonic soma. It models itself after no known synth, and does not wish to. Housing a six-voice polyphonic wavetable architecture, this compact sonic deviant offers variable voice modes, an inbuilt delay and a signature Animal Factory analog fuzz circuit, it creates soundscapes that range from ethereal lushness to visceral devastation. 

Like a number of mythological shapeshifters, Asura finds its place in any setup. It interfaces with hardware synths using MIDI over TRS, DAWs using USB-C and modular synths using CV, gate and clock inputs and outputs. Alternatively, you can immerse yourself in its liminal sonic spaces using its extremely transparent headphone amplifier

Q: Why does the Asura use an analog fuzz circuit instead of a traditional low-pass filter?
A: Animal Factory Amplification is world-renowned for boutique distortion circuits (such as the Gungung and Baron Samedi). Rather than clipping or rolling off high frequencies with a standard digital filter, Asura routes its 6-voice wavetables directly through real analog saturation, folding, and fuzz. This lets you dial in everything from subtle, warm tube-like saturation to chaotic, biting industrial harmonics that no digital filter can mimic.

Q: Can I integrate Asura with my Eurorack modular rig?
A: Yes. Asura features dedicated 3.5mm analog patch points on the rear panel: 1V/Oct pitch input and output, Gate in/out, Clock in/out, and two assignable CV inputs. You can sequence Asura from your modular gear, use Asura’s touchplate and p-lock sequencer to drive Eurorack oscillators, or modulate Asura’s wavetable positions and delay times with external LFOs.

Q: How does the capacitive keyboard handle expressive playing?
A: The front-panel touch keyboard is multitouch and pressure-sensitive, transmitting continuous polyphonic pressure (channel/poly aftertouch). Pressing harder on individual pads can dynamically open the fuzz drive, alter wavetable indices, or modulate the granular delay rate in real time.

Q: How is Asura powered? Is a power adapter included?
A: Asura is powered by a standard 12V DC (1A, center-positive) power supply. A compatible UK/EU power adapter is included in the box with your order from Blip.

Q: Can I load custom wavetables and manage presets on a computer?
A: Yes. Asura features a noise-free, isolated USB-C port that supports class-compliant bidirectional MIDI and connects directly to a browser-based Web MIDI editor. You can load custom single-cycle wavetables, save and organize preset banks, and update firmware directly via Chrome or Edge without installing bulky third-party drivers.
