Filtopia is expected to be available in August
Analogue Solutions once again proves that analog synthesizers don't have to follow convention. The new Filtopia combines classic subtractive synthesis with a truly distinctive architecture: five parallel analog multimode filters form the core of the instrument, unlocking sonic possibilities that go far beyond traditional filter sweeps.

Rather than modulating a single filter, Filtopia allows all five filters to operate simultaneously, each with its own cutoff, resonance, and modulation settings. The result is exceptionally wide multi-band sweeps, intricate resonance textures, and organic formant and vocal-like sounds more commonly associated with dedicated filter banks or modular systems than with conventional monosynths. This innovative filter architecture makes Filtopia a powerful instrument for creative sound design.
Despite its experimental concept, Filtopia features a fully analog signal path. Three analog VCOs, two sub-oscillators, two LFOs, three ADSR envelope generators, two VCAs (including one with integrated echo), an 8-step sequencer, and extensive CV patch points allow it to function equally well as a classic lead and bass synthesizer or as a semi-modular sound design laboratory. An external audio input also enables drum machines, grooveboxes, software synths, and other audio sources to be processed through the unique five-filter section, adding unmistakable analog character to virtually any signal.

As with all Analogue Solutions instruments, designer Tom Carpenter relies on traditional analog circuitry inspired by classic 1970s synthesizer designs. The complete audio and modulation path remains fully analog, while only the MIDI-to-CV conversion and sequencer control are digitally implemented. Filtopia is designed and handcrafted in the United Kingdom.
Limited to just 200 units worldwide, Filtopia is aimed at musicians, sound designers, and collectors seeking an extraordinary boutique analog instrument with truly exclusive character.

FAQs
FAQs
Q: Why are parallel filters so different from the filters on standard monophonic synths?
A: On a standard monosynth, all audio from the oscillators flows into a single filter stage. If you select a low-pass filter, it cuts out everything above the cutoff frequency across the entire sound evenly. Filtopia's parallel bank doesn't layer them end-to-end; it splits your audio into five completely separate lanes concurrently. By offsetting the individual cutoff frequencies and cranking up the resonance, you can create multiple targeted frequency peaks. This creates complex multi-band acoustic movement and vocal formant behavior that a single filter slope cannot accomplish.
Q: How do the two separate VCAs help create stereo movement if it’s a monophonic synth?
A: Even though Filtopia tracks a single monophonic pitch path at a time, its output stage is beautifully stereophonic. Analogue Solutions split the engine into a Main output (which runs through the built-in analog echo circuit) and an Auxiliary output (which bypasses the echo for a completely dry signal). Because both outputs are governed by separate, independent VCAs and driven by different envelope generators, you can modulate the decay shapes differently between the wet and dry lines. This pulls the sound wide open, creating organic, auto-panning stereo movement right out of the box.
Q: Can I patch Filtopia directly into my Eurorack modular setup?
A: Yes, flawlessly. While it functions perfectly as a standalone desktop instrument with direct 5-pin DIN MIDI control, Tom Carpenter built a dedicated mini-jack patch bay right into the interface panel. These patch points allow you to route control voltages, clock triggers, and external hardware envelopes out of your Eurorack gear directly into Filtopia's oscillators and parallel filter stages, treating the entire synth like an expansive semi-modular environment.
