In the West Coast philosophy of synthesis, one oscillator modulating another is a classic way of creating rich timbres. Voltage control of the modulation and of the waveshape is essential for evolving the sounds from whatever CV sources.
The Verbos Electronics Complex Oscillator is configured as a master oscillator with an voltage controlled waveshaper and a modulation oscillator that can be used for FM or AM.
The waveshape of the modulation can be set to triangle, square or saw, each with a dedicated output. Modulation amount can be voltage controlled with a reversing attenuator on the CV input.
The master oscillator has dedicated outputs for triangle, square and sine waves. The master output can blend from sine to square to saw to folded sine all from voltage control with reversing attenuators on all of the CV inputs.
The oscillators are analog triangle cores with discrete transistor exponential converters. Each has inputs for linear and exponential FM. Both have 1 volt/octave trimmed CV inputs as well.

Blip Expert Take
Inspired by classic vintage Buchla instruments, Mark Verbos engineered this legendary dual-oscillator voice module to be raw, expressive, and uncompromised. Its dedicated modulation oscillator drives an internal multi-stage wavefolder to effortlessly unlock rich, glassy, and metallic overtones.

FAQs
FAQs
Q: What is the main structural difference between the "Sine" output and the "Master" output?
A: The Sine jack on the carrier oscillator outputs a clean, fundamental, unshaped analog sine wave straight from the triangle core. The Master output, however, takes that exact same sine wave and routes it through Verbos' complex multi-stage analog wavefolding and harmonics circuitry. The Master jack is where your Timbre, Symmetry, and Order parameter changes actively mutate the signal.
Q: Does the internal Frequency Modulation bus use linear or exponential curves?
A: The internal, hardwired modulation bus utilizes unipolar exponential frequency modulation. This choice was made because exponential FM excels at low-frequency modulations, such as tracking musical vibratos or building organic tremolos across multiple octaves without dropping pitch scaling. However, if your patch requires linear FM, Verbos includes separate f.m. input jacks on both oscillators, allowing you to feed external bipolar modulators through dedicated attenuators for clean, bright, and perfectly symmetrical audio-rate FM tracking.
Q: What exactly does the "Soft-Sync" toggle switch accomplish?
A: When flipped toward the arrow indicator, the Sync switch engages a soft-synchronization loop where the right-side Master Oscillator lightly forces the left-side Modulation Oscillator to reset its phase timing. This locks the frequency cycles of both voices together dynamically, which eliminates chaotic pitch beating and unlocks highly stable, metallic, or sideband-rich frequency modulated timbres that track perfectly over melodic lines.
Q: Will this module fit into shallow, portable skiff enclosures?
A: Yes, perfectly. Despite its complex dual-voice analog architecture, the Verbos Complex Oscillator measures a very slimline 26mm in physical module depth. This compact footprint ensures it can drop comfortably into almost any modern, shallow, or portable desktop travel skiff case on the market with zero risk of touching your power busboards.
